Wellington Wells Collection: American Poultry Historical Society Papers

Introduction

Wellington Wells was a breeder of exhibition poultry in Millis, Massachusetts. His collection contains an extensive listing of exhibition-type poultry breeders who exhibited in 22 states and Ontario, Canada between 1898 and 1971. Also included are the premium lists which outline the awards given to the best individual birds or groups of birds for each breed being exhibited. The oldest catalog was published in 1898 by the New York Poultry and Pigeon Association. A significant portion of the collection is devoted to exhibitions in Massachusetts and to the Boston Poultry Show in particular. A total of 132 poultry show publications are included. Collection also contains copies of the Silver Wyandotte News from a period 1944-1956 and several other items related to poultry breeding.
