Public transportation

From the College Park Metro Station (Green Line), take the 86 bus (PDF) towards Calverton. Exit the bus at Southard Dr and walk south (towards IKEA) the the Library's front door.

USDA employees can take advantage of the USDA shuttle from Greenbelt Metro Station


The Special Collections reading room is closed for lunch between 12:00pm and 1:00pm. The first floor of the library remains open, but we do not have a space where visitors can eat. A number of eateries are available within walking distance along Baltimore Avenue. These establishments can be seen by clicking and dragging on the map above to view more of the surrounding area.

When you arrive

When you arrive at NAL, please enter through the main door at the front of the building and register at the security desk inside. You will be asked to present photo identification and the security guard will inspect any bags or containers you bring. Inform the guard that you have an appointment with Special Collections, and he or she will telephone us to come escort you to the third floor.

What to bring

You may bring pencils, papers, laptop computers, mobile devices, and cameras into the Special Collections reading room. Food, drink, pens, and bags must be left in the lockers immediately outside the reading room.
